Banaue is located north of the island of Luzon and is famous for some of the most scenic and breathtaking clusters of the Ifugao rice terraces, which are unofficially referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” It is a must-visit place for travellers who enjoy camping, mountain-trekking, scenic views, and off-trail driving.

Banaue Tour

Built hundreds of years ago and passed on from generation to generation, the Ifugao rice terraces serve as a perfect illustration of a unique civilization and an agricultural ingenuity that has survived the test of time. They also represent a memorial to the history and labor of the community’s sustainable system of rice production that has survived for 2000 years. For these reasons and more, the historical site has been listed among UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

Banaue Tour

Banaue is also home to the Ifugao people, the indigenous people from whom the province takes its name. A people of rich tradition, spirituality, and culture, the Ifugao are highly invested in agriculture, particularly rice farming and livestock. A visit to Banaue’s many Ifugao villages can prove to be an invaluable experience, where one can witness and immerse in local practices and rituals, as well as traditional fun and games. Wouldn’t you like to take part in an Ifugao ritual?
