Festival of Lights

Sagada is definitely one of the most appreciated destinations by tourists and backpackers as much as anyone who enjoys nature and adventure. A quiet and peaceful sleepy town, it is the ideal place to cool down away from the rough-and-tumble grind of the city, as the temperature is also much cooler!

Hanging Coffins in Sagada

The most famous activity in Sagada is spelunking in Sumaguing Cave. An exciting adventure for both beginners and experts, this cave spans several kilometers of cave formations. Sagada is also a place to witness timeless tradition. After a trek to the Echo Valley where you can scream to your heart’s content and listen for a reply in case the spirits heard you, you will find yourself with a view of the storied Sagada Hanging Coffins. During All Saints’ Day, take an eyeful of the local Pinag-aapoy Festival, an excellent showcase of the fusion between indigenous local customs and western-influenced religious tradition.

Coffee in Sagada

1Sagada

Last but not least, even if you are not an early bird, make sure not to miss the sunrise as seen on Kiltepan’s viewpoint. Enjoy a truly picturesque view as the morning sun’s earliest rays bathe light upon amazing rice terraces and clouds, making you feel as if you were in heaven. Oh, and to complete the early morning experience, why not have a cup or two of Sagada’s signature brewed coffee?
